A 1989 graduate of Cornell University School of Law who simultaneously earned a Masters in Business Administration at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, Mr. Bures honed his legal skills with Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance) and Loeb & Loeb prior to joining the Firm. He also holds degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of California at Irvine. Mr. Bures is an accomplished business litigator and head of the Firm’s litigation department. Mr. Bures’ concentrates his work on the Firm’s Business Litigation, Environmental, Real Property, Drug and Medical Device Litigation, and Appellate Practice Areas. In addition, Mr. Bures maintains an active practice in the Firm’s Business Transactions area, representing buyers and sellers of mid-cap companies.
Over his career, Mr. Bures has represented a broad range of clients on a diverse array of matters, from regular business disputes, to innovative technology licensing issues, to environmental matters. Mr. Bures has represented commercial real property owners and managers in sale and lease disputes; municipalities and businesses in CEQA and environmental matters; concerned citizens in a disputed election matter; high tech start-ups involving interactive media in licensing disputes; a nutritional supplements manufacturer and distributor in an unfair trade and Lanham Act dispute; the officers and directors of a start-up internet record company in a fraud action; and a manufacturer of over-the-counter medications in a breach of contract dispute. Mr. Bures also has experience in copyright and trademark infringement matters.
Mr. Bures’ transactional experience focuses on mergers and acquisitions representing buyers and sellers of mid-cap companies. Mr. Bures’ transactions have included representation of the sellers of an international education evaluation service; representation of a display manufacturer in a recapitalization transaction with a private equity investor; representation of the owners a home warranty business; and representation of sellers of a specialty food company; and representation of a national manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment in a restructuring.
Mr. Bures has had extensive litigation experience in all fields of business litigation, with particular emphasis upon trial advocacy. His reported cases include Jarrow Formulas, Inc. v. Nutrition Now, Inc., 304 F.3d 829 (9th Cir. 2002), Castaic Lake Water Agency v. Whittaker Corporation, 272 F.Supp.2d 1053 (C.D. Cal. 2003), and California Department of Toxic Substances Control v. Interstate Non-Ferrous Corporation, et al., 99 F.Supp.2d 1123 (E.D. Cal. 2000).
Mr. Bures was named a Southern California Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and Los Angeles Magazine. He also sits on the Board of Directors of KHEIR, the Korean Health Information & Research Center.
