Mr. Smith focuses his practice on commercial, environmental, and construction issues, representing public and private companies, and corporate officers and directors. His commercial litigation experience includes contract, fraud, unfair business practices, and trade secrets. His environmental litigation experience includes representing commercial and individual clients against claims brought pursuant to CERCLA, HSAA, and the Polanco Redevelopment Act. His construction litigation experience includes representing developers and contractors in complex multi-party matters. Mr. Smith has meaningful experience in both state and federal court. Most notably, he served as second chair for a nine day jury trial in federal court which resulted in a sizeable jury verdict in favor of his clients. Following the favorable verdict, he successfully opposed numerous post-trial motions to uphold the jury verdict. He earned his B.S. in Finance from San Diego State University and his J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law, where he earned a CALI Award in Criminal Procedure and served as a research assistant for “The Enron Trial Drama: A New Case for Stakeholder Theory”, 38 U.Tol.L.Rev. 1087 (2007). He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, South Bay Bar Association, the Association of Surfing Lawyers, and the State Bar of California.
